An African teenager has been apprehended following the stabbing of a Nigerian man outside a bar in Switzerland.
The distressing incident occurred at approximately 7:15 p.m. on Monday, June 19, 2023, in the city of Basel, situated near the borders of Germany and France.
Eyewitnesses report that a teenager attempted to snatch a wallet from a passerby, leading to an escalating confrontation.
"Everything unfolded rapidly when another individual tried to help the victim of the robbery," said a bystander interviewed by 20 Minutes.
"Suddenly, the person who intervened found himself with a knife embedded in his thigh."
Emergency services swiftly arrived at the scene and discovered a 37-year-old Nigerian man bleeding profusely on the street.
He was promptly transported to the hospital in a serious condition.
Authorities managed to apprehend one suspect, a 14-year-old Algerian, who was taken into custody.
As of the latest updates available on Tuesday, a second suspect, described as a North African male in his 20s, remains at large.
Investigations and legal proceedings are currently underway.
