Woman Wounded Trying to Protect Friend from Shotgun-Wielding Ex

In a distressing incident in Florida, an armed man arrived uninvited at a residence while searching for his ex-girlfriend.

Brandishing a shotgun, the man proceeded to shoot and kill a male occupant of the house, while also injuring a woman who bravely intervened to protect their friend from domestic violence, as reported by the Clay County Sheriff's Office.

The tragic event unfolded at a home situated on State Road 100 in Keystone Heights.

Authorities were alerted to the shooting following a 911 call.

Upon arrival, deputies discovered a lifeless man in the driveway, having sustained multiple gunshot wounds.

Inside the residence, they found a wounded woman who was promptly transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.

She was able to identify the suspect, who had fled the scene, according to law enforcement officials.

In an effort to apprehend the suspect, neighboring agencies were immediately notified, with a description of both the individual and the pickup truck he was driving.

Deputies successfully located the suspect's truck as it entered a different county and swiftly took him into custody.

Investigators revealed that the victims had occasionally permitted a friend to stay at their residence, and this friend had a troubled history with her estranged boyfriend, identified as John Jacob Thornton, due to domestic violence.

Thornton is currently detained at the Clay County Jail, facing charges of second-degree murder and second-degree attempted murder.
