Convicted child molester Larry Nassar has been the victim of a stabbing attack in the federal prison where he is serving his sentence for sexually assaulting gymnasts, including Olympic gold medal winners.
The incident took place at the Federal Correctional Complex Coleman in Central Florida, where Nassar was stabbed multiple times on Sunday afternoon. Reports indicate that he suffered injuries to his neck, back, and chest.
According to union official Joe Rojas, Nassar is currently in stable condition despite a collapsed lung. Rojas expressed gratitude for the prison staff's intervention, believing that they played a crucial role in saving Nassar's life.
The Federal Bureau of Prisons confirmed the assault but did not disclose the identity of the inmate involved due to privacy and security concerns. An internal investigation is underway, and the FBI has been notified.
Sarah Klein, the first known victim of Nassar, released a statement in response to the attack, calling on prison officials to ensure the safety of Nassar so that he can face the consequences of his crimes.
Klein, now a civil and trial attorney representing sexual abuse victims, emphasized that the incident brings back painful memories for survivors and highlights the institutions that failed to protect them.
Larry Nassar, formerly a sports doctor at Michigan State University and USA Gymnastics, faced allegations of sexually abusing over 300 girls and women under the guise of medical treatment.
He admitted to the abuse and received multiple prison sentences in state and federal trials.
The survivors, including prominent gymnasts like Aly Raisman and Simone Biles, have spoken out against Nassar, and their testimonies played a significant role in his conviction.
