Georgia Man Accused of Kidnapping and Fatally Shooting and Killing Ex-Girlfriend in Police Confrontation
A 20-year-old man from Georgia is accused of a harrowing crime involving the kidnapping and fatal shooting of his ex-girlfriend during a confrontation with police in the parking lot of a Clayton County school.
Remarkably, the suspect had previously faced charges of kidnapping the same victim exactly one year earlier.
Authorities from the Fayetteville Police Department received reports of a kidnapping around 11 p.m. on Sunday at a Wingstop restaurant located on Flynn Street.
Callers informed 911 operators that a man had entered the establishment and, at gunpoint, forced his 19-year-old ex-girlfriend, who happened to be an employee there, to leave with him.
En route to the scene, officers spotted a red Chevrolet Camaro matching the description provided by witnesses, indicating that the suspect and the victim were inside the vehicle.
When the driver noticed the police presence, a high-speed chase ensued, ultimately ending at Lovejoy High School in Clayton County. Law enforcement used a PIT maneuver to disable the car, leaving it stranded at the entrance of the school.
In a desperate attempt to evade capture, the suspect opened fire at the officers and their patrol vehicles, prompting the law enforcement personnel to seek cover. During the tense standoff, multiple shots were fired inside the Chevrolet, resulting in the tragic death of the abducted woman.
As the suspect exited the vehicle after the police deployed a chemical irritant, he was apprehended and taken into custody.
Tragically, the woman was discovered with multiple gunshot wounds inside the car and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The alleged kidnapper has been identified as 20-year-old Cameron Ja'Michael Hopkins from Albany.
He currently faces charges of kidnapping and aggravated assault by the Fayetteville Police Department, as well as malice murder, two counts of aggravated assault, and possession of a weapon during the commission of a crime in Clayton County.
The victim has been identified as Khaliyah Jones, and shockingly, this is not the first time Hopkins is accused of kidnapping his victim.
Nearly a year before this devastating incident, on July 16, 2022, Hopkins and another individual, 33-year-old Demarco Jennings, allegedly forced the then-18-year-old Jones into a car at gunpoint.

Authorities revealed that Hopkins broke the window of the victim's car at a Lovejoy Walmart parking lot and forcibly removed her from the vehicle.
Eventually, Jones managed to escape from the back seat and sought refuge at a nearby business.
Both Hopkins and Jennings were arrested in Albany and faced charges of terrorist threats and kidnapping, among others. Hopkins was released on bond in September 2022.
The investigation into these distressing events is ongoing, and anyone with information related to the case is urged to contact the Fayetteville Police Department.
