A female kindergarten teacher in China has been executed for poisoning 25 children, resulting in the death of one child, by contaminating their porridge as an act of revenge against a colleague.
Wang Yun, 39, was arrested and sentenced to death after the incident occurred four years ago at the Mengmeng Pre-school Education in Jiaozuo.
The poisoning took place when Wang added sodium nitrite to the children's breakfast, causing them to experience vomiting and fainting. The shocking incident shocked China and garnered international attention.
Wang's death sentence was upheld after an unsuccessful appeal. On Thursday, she was escorted to the execution site and the sentence was carried out.
The poisoning was reportedly carried out in retaliation for a dispute with her colleague, Sun, over student management issues.
Wang purchased the sodium nitrite after the disagreement and added it to the children's porridge, a popular sweet rice-based dish in China.
The incident resulted in 25 children being poisoned, with one child ultimately dying from multiple organ failure after spending ten months in the hospital.
Wang's actions were described by the court as "despicable and vicious." It was also revealed that Wang had previously attempted to poison her husband in 2017 using sodium nitrite.
The case of Wang Yun adds to a series of high-profile incidents involving violence or deaths in Chinese kindergartens in recent years.
