Man Arrested Two Years After He Murdered And Burnt A Pregnant Woman

Chicago, Illinois authorities have identified Victor Terrell, 35, as the individual responsible for the murder of Stephanie Haynes, a 34-year-old pregnant woman, and the subsequent arson of her home over two years ago.

The news came as a shock to the victim's sister, Lesley Haynes, who expressed disbelief at the heinous act. Lesley described Stephanie as a gentle soul who wouldn't harm anyone.

According to police reports, Terrell was identified as the perpetrator who participated in the arson and death of the 34-year-old woman on November 9, 2020, at the 5000 block of W. Gladys Ave. He was taken into custody and charged with first-degree murder, aggravated arson knowing a person is present, and concealing the death of another.

The authorities did not immediately disclose a motive for the crime or provide details about the connection between Terrell and Stephanie. Law enforcement officers stated their belief that the victim had died before the fire broke out.

Lesley Haynes revealed that her sister was five months pregnant at the time of the tragedy. Describing Stephanie as intelligent and beautiful, Lesley mentioned that she was an exceptional dancer and emphasized that her sister would never harm anyone.

Lesley further explained that she had gone to Stephanie's home that morning because she had been concerned about her for quite some time. Stephanie had faced challenges in life, residing in shelters and struggling with mental health issues. After moving to Chicago from Seattle, Stephanie had been living with their grandmother until her passing, after which she lived alone.

Neighbors shared limited knowledge about Stephanie, with Darryl Stingley noting that she frequently walked in the area and had visitors. However, the depth of her circumstances remained largely unknown.

Lesley Haynes had advised her sister to stay in Seattle, as the resources there were better suited to her needs. She expressed her belief that Stephanie was taken advantage of due to her mental capacity.
