In Indiana, a 32-year-old man with a history of domestic violence against his wife and children has been arrested after allegedly stalking and killing his former spouse.
Joshua Alexander Farmer is facing charges of murder, stalking while armed with a deadly weapon, criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon, and unlawful carrying of a handgun in connection with the shooting death of Kaylah Ann Farmer.
On June 28, police responded to a shooting at a Speedway gas station near Indianapolis, where they discovered Kaylah Farmer seated in a van with multiple gunshot wounds. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Joshua Farmer, her husband, quickly became a person of interest in the case. Surveillance footage from the gas station revealed that he had arrived shortly after his wife and fired multiple shots at her through the window.
Authorities believe Joshua Farmer had been following Kaylah throughout the day before carrying out the attack when she stopped for gas. An autopsy revealed that she had sustained over 15 gunshot wounds and had more than 25 bullet fragments in her body.
The day after the shooting, Joshua Farmer was apprehended after being spotted by detectives conducting surveillance. A 9 mm handgun matching the shell casings used in the murder was found in a vehicle linked to him.
Prosecutors have stated that Kaylah Farmer was a victim of domestic violence and often wore excessive makeup to conceal bruises on her face and neck. Additionally, court documents indicate previous incidents where Joshua Farmer allegedly choked and punched her in front of their 11-year-old son, who also witnessed his father holding a firearm to his mother's head.
Joshua Farmer faces charges related to the May incident, including criminal confinement, intimidation using a deadly weapon, domestic battery, strangulation, and pointing a firearm at another.
He is currently being held without bond and is scheduled to appear in court for a pretrial conference in August.
Kaylah Ann Farmer, who had worked for IU Health for eight years and served in the U.S. Air Force, was described as a dedicated mother who cherished her three children and enjoyed watching them play soccer.
