Tragic Collision: Father and Son Killed by Drunk Driver on Their Way to Son's College Orientation

A father and son who were on their way to the son's college freshman orientation, met their untimely deaths when a third-time drunk driver crashed into their vehicle.

Shane Lloyd, 50, was driving with his son, Jakob Lloyd, from their Colorado home to the University of Central Florida on Sunday afternoon when the collision occurred at the intersection of Lake Underhill and Rouse roads in Florida.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Leslie Gehret, 40, ran a red light and collided with the vehicle carrying the father and son.

Investigators revealed that this was Gehret's third DUI offense.

Shane's sister, Shannon Brown, expressed her disbelief and grief, emphasizing the devastating impact this incident has had on their family.

She described her brother as her hero and spoke of the immense loss they are facing, particularly since they were on their way to help Jakob begin a new chapter in his life.

An eyewitness at the scene, Chase Woodburn, recounted the horrific accident, stating that the Lloyds' vehicle rolled over multiple times before coming to a stop with its roof on the ground.

Woodburn and other compassionate individuals rushed to their aid, immediately calling 911 for assistance.

Woodburn further mentioned that Gehret appeared shocked and confused, sitting in her car with her hands on the wheel, looking around.

Gehret now faces charges of homicide for the deaths of the father and son, along with multiple counts of manslaughter.

Her driver's license had been previously suspended before the tragic crash.

During Gehret's first court appearance, a judge confirmed the charges against her, underscoring the severity of the situation. Bail was set at over $700,000.

While seeking justice for their loss, Shane's family also expressed their intention to forgive Gehret and include her family in their prayers.

They acknowledged that this tragedy has caused pain to both families involved.

Shane, an electrical engineer, and Jakob, an aspiring lawyer, had promising futures ahead of them. Their dreams were abruptly shattered, leaving their loved ones devastated by the loss of two remarkable individuals.
