In a disturbing incident in Limpopo, two men accused of kidnapping and repeatedly raping an 18-year-old boy have been remanded in custody following their appearance in the Thohoyandou Magistrate's Court. The accused, Phumudzo Chris Nemutudi, 27, and Thompho Mudau, 25, from Thohoyandou Block F, allegedly demanded a ransom of R2 million from the boy's parents after the abduction.

According to Mashudu Malabi Dzhangi, the provincial spokesperson for the National Prosecuting Authority, the accused men opted not to pursue bail during their court appearance on Monday.

The incident took place in the Mbilwi area within the Thulamela Municipality. It is alleged that Nemutudi and Mudau kidnapped the Indian boy and subjected him to multiple instances of rape before demanding the exorbitant ransom.

The bail hearing for the two accused has been abandoned, and the matter has been adjourned to September 8, 2023, for further investigations. In the meantime, the accused individuals will remain in custody.

This follows another recent case in Limpopo where police launched a manhunt for suspects involved in the kidnapping of a well-known businessman in Burgersfort. According to Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, the provincial police spokesperson, the incident occurred around 7:30 PM at one of the businessman's filling stations.

The taxi driver was confronted by an unknown male suspect brandishing a firearm, while five other suspects accosted the businessman. The assailants forcibly placed the businessman into a black Volkswagen Golf GTI, which then drove away from the scene, accompanied by a white Mercedes-Benz vehicle with registration number 786 AGM L.

These alarming incidents have sparked outrage within the community as authorities strive to bring the perpetrators to justice and ensure the safety and security of the public.
