A woman involved in the brutal murder of a Maryland mother-of-two, Tiffany N. Jones, has been sentenced to life in prison plus 50 years for her role in the gruesome crime. Bobie Barncord, 33, was convicted of first-degree murder, kidnapping, conspiracy to kidnap, and arson on April 26, 2023 and received her sentencing on Friday.
Jones was abducted at knifepoint by Barncord's co-defendant, Willard Turner, also known as "Philly." Barncord acted as the getaway driver.
The Office of the State's Attorney for Baltimore City released a statement detailing the events. On August 22, officers responded to a call about a fire and discovered Jones naked and bound.
Bobie Barncord (Suspect)
Before interviewing Barncord, law enforcement obtained a search warrant for the getaway car, which was registered under Barncord's father's name. During the vehicle search, they found the victim's shoes in the back seat floorboard area.
They also recovered a large knife consistent with the one used in the kidnapping. Barncord's DNA was later found on the knife handle.
According to investigators, Barncord admitted her involvement in the murder, kidnapping, and false imprisonment of Jones. She confessed to pouring lighter fluid on the victim while an unidentified person set her on fire.
Barncord claimed that part of her motivation for participating in the act was her belief that Jones had stolen her cell phone.
Willard Turner (Main Suspect)
The case has been described as heinous, and the road to justice has been long. The Major Investigations Unit and Baltimore Police Department homicide detectives, with assistance from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, worked tirelessly to bring closure to Jones' family.
While the defendant's actions cannot be undone, the aim is to ensure that she never has the opportunity to harm someone in this manner again.
