Zimbabwean Best Friends Brutally Attacked And Murdered In Their Saloon In South Africa

The Benoni CBD community is in a state of shock and disbelief following the brutal murder of two best friends on June 15.

The victims, Obey Mavhengere (37) and Voight Mapfumo (26), known as 'RasVee,' were both Zimbabwean nationals residing in South Africa.

The tragic incident, which occurred at their hair salon on the corner of Horsfall Street and Prince's Avenue around 18:50, has sent shockwaves throughout the town.

According to anonymous sources speaking to the Benoni City Times, the two friends were allegedly attacked with an axe inside their salon.

When the police arrived at the scene, they discovered Mavhengere lying on the ground in a pool of blood, and he was pronounced dead on-site.

Mapfumo was rushed to the hospital by ambulance but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries upon arrival.

Captain Nelda Sekgobela, Ekurhuleni district communication officer, stated that the police have not yet arrested any suspects and are currently conducting ongoing investigations to determine the weapon used in the attack.

The lack of witnesses has made it challenging to confirm specific details at this stage.

Thabang Ndlovu, Mavhengere's devastated cousin, expressed the family's profound grief and struggle to come to terms with the loss.

Mavhengere's mother, in particular, has been deeply affected, as she shared a close bond with her youngest child.

The two best friends, known for their inseparable companionship, were always seen together, and witnessing Mavhengere in such a horrific state has left Ndlovu heartbroken.

He described his cousin as a sociable person who loved making jokes and bringing laughter to those around him.

Mavhengere was laid to rest in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe on June 24, surrounded by grieving family members and friends.

A heartfelt memorial service was also held on June 23 along Bedford Avenue, where residents and business owners gathered to pay tribute to Mapfumo.

The emotional event saw friends and fellow Zimbabweans chanting while carrying his coffin through the street, celebrating his life and mourning his untimely death.

The police are urging the public to come forward with any information that could assist in identifying and apprehending the perpetrators of this heinous crime.
