In Oregon, a man with multiple identities is accused of holding a woman captive in a homemade cell and sexually assaulting her before she managed to escape miraculously.
Now, law enforcement is on the lookout for potential victims across the country.
The suspect, Negasi Zuberi, 29, is currently in federal custody on one count of interstate kidnapping, according to the FBI.
A brave woman from Washington State led investigators to the house in Klamath Falls, Oregon, where she had been imprisoned, resulting in Zuberi's arrest.
However, authorities believe she may not be his only victim. They suspect that he may have committed violent sexual assaults in at least four other states.
Zuberi's modus operandi involved luring the woman to Seattle under the pretence of purchasing sex.
Once he had her alone, he posed as an undercover police officer, "arrested" her, and then transported her about 450 miles to the cell he had set up in his garage in Klamath Falls, where he sexually assaulted her throughout the trip.
The woman bravely managed to escape, ultimately saving herself from further harm.
The notebook found at Zuberi's house revealed a chilling plan titled "Operation Take Over," detailing how to avoid detection and dispose of bodies.
Law enforcement tracked him down in a Walmart parking lot in Reno, Nevada, where he surrendered after a standoff during which he allegedly injured himself.
The FBI warns that Zuberi has used various methods to control his victims, including drugging their drinks, impersonating a police officer, and violently assaulting sex workers.
Some of these encounters may have been filmed to make it appear consensual, and victims are threatened with retaliation if they report the crimes.
Authorities have determined that Zuberi has lived in at least ten states since August 2016, and they suspect there could be more victims out there.
