Shocking surveillance footage captured the distressing incident when a former Connecticut state worker had a disturbing breakdown at a police department. The woman, identified as 51-year-old Suzanne Laprise, can be seen on video repeatedly striking her handgun against the protective glass at the Bristol Police Department before discharging multiple rounds directly at the glass.
According to an official statement from the Office of Inspector General, the incident occurred around 11:30 p.m. on October 5. Laprise entered the Bristol Police Department office while armed with a handgun.
The surveillance video reveals Laprise's actions as she approached the unattended front desk, rapping on the glass with her hand and then striking the glass with the gun repeatedly.
As she continued to pound on the glass, she also fired multiple rounds. Fortunately, the bullets failed to penetrate the bullet-resistant glass.
The video shows her firing a round into the police station's ceiling as well.
Body camera footage provides a closer look at the situation as officers engaged in an 'open dialogue' with Laprise before taking action.
Despite attempts to communicate with Laprise, she persisted in firing additional rounds towards the officers. Officer Spencer Boisvert discharged two shots in her direction, but no one was injured.
The video shows multiple officers rushing towards Laprise after she set the gun down. To subdue her, the officers utilized an electronic defense weapon before taking her into custody.
Following the incident, Laprise was taken to Bristol Hospital for evaluation.
Laprise faces a litany of charges, including Criminal Attempt/Murder with Special Circumstance, Illegal Discharge of Firearm, Illegal carry of firearms under the influence of drugs/alcohol, Criminal use of Weapon, Violation of Pistol Permit Requirements, Illegal Possession of Large Capacity Magazine, Criminal Mischief 1st Degree, Reckless Endangerment 1st Degree, and Breach of Peace 2nd Degree.
She is currently held on a $3,000,000.00 bond and appeared at New Britain Superior Court for an arraignment on October 6.
