Justice For Sonya Evette White: Florida Man Faces Life Sentence for Wife's Gruesome Murder Using Her Purse Strap
A 61-year-old man from Florida is looking at a potential life sentence after he admitted to a gruesome act of violence against his 49-year-old wife. He confessed to strangling her to death using her purse strap and then stabbing her with a kitchen knife after she had passed away.
Keith Antonio Davis got arrested recently and is now facing charges of first-degree premeditated murder in connection with the death of Sonya Evette White, as per court documents examined by Law&Crime.
The West Palm Beach Police Department received a call from the victim's daughter on September 25th. She was worried because her mom hadn't been responding to calls or messages for several days, which was unusual. She went to her mother's apartment, where she lived with Davis, but found the door locked and no one answering.
On September 27th, the daughter, accompanied by officers and a locksmith, returned to the apartment to check on her mother's well-being. The locksmith noticed that the door's deadbolts were damaged and not working correctly.
Eventually, they gained access through a rear door and discovered White's lifeless body on the kitchen floor, with obvious stab wounds and a large kitchen knife on her chest.
There were no signs of a break-in, and both the victim's cellphone and her husband were missing.
On September 28th, investigators found out that Davis had been arrested by the Broward County Sheriff's Office. A West Palm Beach detective was there to meet him upon his release.
During their encounter, Davis didn't resist. He acknowledged, "Let's go…" The detective recorded Davis stating that the incident with his wife was an accident. Davis agreed to be interviewed by investigators after being read his Miranda rights.
In the interview, Davis claimed that he and Mrs. White had been using crack cocaine on September 24th when she demanded he leave. He said he covered her mouth, choked her, then used her purse strap to strangle her to death. Later, he confessed to grabbing a knife from the kitchen and stabbing her in the chest.
Davis told police that he had to act because she had threatened him with the same knife before.
