Florida Woman, Joyce Ann Small Accused of Fatally Shooting Former Houseguest

A Florida woman stands accused of fatally shooting another woman she had previously taken into her home, according to police reports.

Joyce Ann Small, aged 64, allegedly approached a woman outside a Miami Gardens library and shot her to death. The victim reportedly pleaded for her life before the shooting occurred.

Small, as per her statements, had previously allowed the victim, whom she referred to as Sarai, into her home to shower and occasionally spend the night, stating that Sarai was homeless.

Authorities also claim that Small suspected Sarai of having an affair with her boyfriend, who was already married to another woman. Small allegedly told the police that she had been keeping an eye on Sarai and accused her of mistreating her and engaging in physical altercations over the past few months.

According to an arrest report obtained by various news outlets, security camera footage purportedly captured Small emerging from the bushes to ambush the victim as she walked towards the library parking lot. The victim was tragically pronounced dead at the scene.

Police stated that the gun used in the shooting was found at the scene.

Small has been charged with first-degree murder and is currently held without bail at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, according to jail records. While the records do not specify her next court appearance date, Local 10 reported that she is currently represented by a public defender.
