Former NFL Player Sergio Brown in Custody in Connection with Mother's Tragic Death

Former NFL player Sergio Brown has been arrested in connection with the tragic death of his mother, according to a source familiar with the investigation as reported by CNN.

The news comes three and a half weeks after family members reported the disappearance of Sergio Brown and his mother, Myrtle Brown, on September 16, as per NBC Chicago. On the same day, the police in Maywood, Illinois, discovered the lifeless body of the 73-year-old near her home, but Sergio, the former football player, was not found at the time.

The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office is treating Myrtle's death as a homicide, attributing it to "multiple injuries due to assault."

Sergio Brown had a six-season career in the NFL, joining the New England Patriots in 2010 and retiring after the 2016 season, during which he played for the Bills.

According to CNN, Sergio Brown went to Mexico after being reported missing and was subsequently deported from the country. He was taken into custody near San Diego, California.

Following his mother's tragic passing, Sergio Brown posted disturbing social media videos.

A video that seemed to feature him was posted on an Instagram account with the username "intplayerwithapassport." (As of Wednesday, the Instagram account is no longer active.)

While the video did not explicitly reference his mother's death, he mentioned the FBI and suggested that the bureau had visited him unexpectedly on "Bob Marley's death day." He also claimed that the Maywood Police Department had "kidnapped" him on two occasions.

In the now-deleted video, he also mentioned that he believed his mother was "on vacation" and hinted at the FBI or Maywood PD's involvement without specifying what "it" referred to.

Two days later, Sergio Brown appeared in another video on the same Instagram account, singing a Drake song and making references to mortality.

It remains uncertain whether Sergio Brown has secured legal representation to speak on his behalf.
