Heartbreaking News: Missing Teen Jakarah Lopez-Moore Found Dead

A teenager who disappeared in August was found on Saturday, as friends and family have shared their grief online.

Jakarah Lopez-Moore from Rochester, New York, was reported missing on August 29, two days after she was last seen, according to the Democrat & Chronicle.

Almost two months later, the 16-year-old's body was discovered in the woods in Rochester, New York, with investigators reporting that her body had been decomposing for more than a month. The discovery was made by witnesses who were fishing behind a recycling facility, as reported by 13 WHAM and Rochester First.

The Monroe County Medical Examiner's Office confirmed the body belonged to Lopez-Moore, and her death has been classified as a homicide, although the exact cause of death remains undisclosed.

Capt. Frank Umbrino of the Rochester Police Department stated that Lopez-Moore left her home voluntarily in the early hours of August 27. Still, her lack of social media activity raised concerns, according to Rochester First.

“Jakarah was going through typical teenage stuff, but it was unusual for her to be out of touch with her family for two days. It was also unusual for her to be absent from social media for that long,” Capt. Umbrino mentioned at the time.

According to one of her Facebook accounts, Lopez-Moore was active on social media until the day before her disappearance.

On Tuesday, Lopez-Moore's mother shared a tribute on social media, expressing her deep love and longing for her daughter.

In another Facebook post, a woman named Kita Herring, who had previously worked with Lopez-Moore, shared her emotional thoughts and memories of the teenager.

The circumstances surrounding Lopez-Moore's care, including whether she was in foster care at any point, remain uncertain.

The investigation into her death is ongoing, and the Rochester Police Department has not responded to multiple requests for information.
