Murder Charges for Las Vegas Woman, Keara Drayer in Connection with Friends Boyfriend's Fatal Shooting

A Las Vegas woman finds herself in hot water with open murder charges looming over her after she allegedly got mixed up in the death of her friend's boyfriend, as per a police report.

Keara Drayer, a 21-year-old, is now staring at charges of open murder and confronting someone with a deadly weapon, according to the cops.

On October 2, around 4 p.m., the North Las Vegas police received a call to a residence on Hoke Edward Court, close to Lone Mountain Road and Commerce Street, following reports of gunshots, records indicated.

A witness relayed that they heard several gunshots, noticed a vehicle speeding away, and a woman screaming that her boyfriend had met his end, according to the police.

Upon arrival, officers discovered spent bullet casings by the front door, blood splatters on the stairs, and a lifeless man upstairs with blood on his shirt.

The victim, identified as 21-year-old Jimmy Smith III, was pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy later revealed that he had sustained six gunshot wounds, the report mentioned.

Talking to Smith's girlfriend shed some light on the events.

She mentioned that they had been living together for more than two years and had a newborn child. Trouble started when Smith went through her phone and saw that she was chatting with an old friend, Drayer, with whom he had a beef. Smith grabbed her phone and sent a text to Drayer, warning her about a slap, according to the police.

Later that night, Drayer arrived at their place in a car. She entered the couple's bedroom unannounced, asked for her shoes, and grabbed them from the closet. The situation escalated when Drayer confronted Smith over the text message, challenging him with words like "You said you were gonna slap me? I wanna see it!" and "You suck, come outside."

Smith followed Drayer out of the bedroom, going down the stairs. At the stairs, he had words with two men, questioning why they were there. That's when gunshots rang out, as reported by the girlfriend, who witnessed it from an upstairs window.

Drayer and three others rushed out of the house and jumped into a car.

On October 3, Drayer was apprehended in a car with another woman by the Las Vegas Criminal Apprehension Team.

The other woman explained that the night before, they all had gone to Smith's house, with Drayer and two men in the car. Once they reached the house, Drayer and the two men kept instructing her to be watchful. A few minutes after Drayer entered the house, the two men followed. This was followed by arguing and gunshots. Drayer and the two men, one of them carrying a firearm, made a quick exit from the house.

Drayer and the woman then dropped off the men at an apartment complex.

When officers interviewed Drayer, she stated that she and Smith's girlfriend had been friends for a long time. However, she had never gotten along with Smith, who she described as very controlling about her choice of friends. She had been at Smith's place the night before the shooting, cooked them dinner, and left, believing everything was fine.

The following day, she received a text from her friend about picking up her shoes, to which she responded affirmatively. However, the message took an unexpected turn with threats of physical harm, and she assumed Smith was behind it. A FaceTime call from Smith, urging her to "come get em," followed.

Drayer told officers that when she visited the house on the night of the shooting, Smith chased her out of the bedroom. She claimed she never saw a gun and only heard gunshots, according to the police.

Drayer was arrested and booked into the North Las Vegas jail. In Nevada, a murder charge can extend to those who assist or are complicit in a murder, not just the person directly responsible for the fatal act.
