Philadelphia Authorities Apprehend Dayron Burney-Thorn, The Final Suspect in High School Shooting Case

In Philadelphia, authorities reported the capture of a fifth and final suspect involved in an ambush shooting that claimed the life of a 14-year-old boy and injured several other teenagers outside a high school following a football scrimmage last year.

Dayron Burney-Thorn, a 17-year-old, was located in the Germantown area of the city. He attempted to escape arrest by jumping out of a fourth-floor apartment window, but law enforcement managed to apprehend him.

Photos reveal that Burney-Thorn was taken away on a stretcher after sustaining undisclosed injuries.

Burney-Thorn had been evading capture for over 13 months and was also wanted in connection with a separate homicide that occurred a day before the shooting near the high school, according to officials.

The incident involved five individuals exiting a parked SUV and opening fire on teenagers who were walking away from an athletic field at Roxborough High School.

Tragically, Nicholas Elizalde, a 14-year-old from suburban Havertown, lost his life, and three other teenagers sustained injuries, with a fourth teenager receiving treatment at the scene.

Law enforcement authorities believe that Nicholas Elizalde was not one of the intended targets.

One of the shooters pursued a 17-year-old victim down the street, shooting him in the leg and arm. The shooter attempted to fire upon the victim as he stood over him, but the gun either jammed or ran out of bullets, as reported by the police.

Yaaseen Bivins, aged 21, along with a 17-year-old, a 16-year-old, and a 15-year-old, had already been arrested in connection with the shooting. In January, a judge ordered Bivins and the three others to stand trial for the shooting.

They all face charges as adults, including murder, aggravated assault, firearms offenses, and other charges.
