Zyroam Allen, an 18-year-old resident of Hackney, has been sentenced to four years in prison at Wood Green Crown Court on October 5th. He was convicted of rape, sexual assault on seven women, and exposing himself to another victim.
These ten offenses occurred in and around the Hackney Marshes area in June 2022. Multiple units within the Metropolitan Police collaborated intensively to identify and prevent further harm caused by Allen.
Detectives dedicated themselves to capturing Allen, analyzing over 400 hours of CCTV footage, collecting numerous statements, and conducting meticulous forensic tests as part of their investigation. The judge lifted Allen's anonymity as he turned 18 on October 6th.
One of the victim-survivors expressed the profound impact on her life, saying, "I no longer run along the canal as I do not feel safe... This person has taken that away from me, and I do not think I will ever get this back." She also praised the police investigation for giving the community a more positive perception of law enforcement.
The victims were targeted while walking or jogging in broad daylight. Allen, often on a bicycle, approached them from behind, grabbing their buttocks or touching their genitals/breasts while making inappropriate comments before riding off.
One victim was subjected to rape, leaving her traumatized, while another was exposed to Allen's indecent behavior at her workplace.
After police established a predator was active in the area, proactive patrols were increased. An e-fit was released to the media, leading several women to report similar incidents. Allen was arrested on June 22nd after a bail breach for an unrelated offense.
Six victims positively identified him, and forensic tests linked him to another offense.
He faced charges for two offenses in June 2022 and an additional seven in October 2022. In December 2022, Allen pleaded guilty to one count of rape, one count of indecent exposure, and seven counts of sexual assault at Wood Green Crown Court.
Detective Constable Kate Robins of CID Central East commended the strength and bravery of the victims for reporting these crimes. She emphasized the collective effort of officers in achieving justice and expressed hope for Allen's rehabilitation.
The Metropolitan Police reaffirmed their commitment to targeting those who harm women, girls, and vulnerable individuals.
These crimes occurred on various dates in June 2022 in locations such as Homerton Road, Daubeney Road, Chatsworth Road, Hackney Marshes, Elderfield Road, Clifden Road, and more.
