Utah Man, Levon Garo Meguerditchian Found Guilty in Fatal Shooting and Kidnapping Case Stemming from Liquor Dispute

In Utah, a man was found guilty by a jury for the fatal shooting of a teenager and the subsequent kidnapping of multiple party attendees, all stemming from his accusation that they had stolen a bottle of liquor from his residence.

Levon Garo Meguerditchian, aged 40, was convicted of various charges, including first-degree murder, multiple counts of aggravated kidnapping, second-degree obstruction of justice, and third-degree discharge of a firearm, according to Salt Lake County District Attorney Sim Gill.

The incident occurred during a party at Meguerditchian's St. Lake City house on August 28, 2021, where a group of individuals allegedly took a bottle of liquor and fled the premises.

Meguerditchian then fired multiple shots at the escaping individuals, tragically hitting 18-year-old Abdourazak Mouhoumed in the head, leading to a fatal car crash.

After the shooting, Meguerditchian compelled other party attendees into his laundry room, making threats of violence against them.

Despite an initial police response that didn't yield evidence of the shooting, a subsequent 911 call prompted a return visit from law enforcement, resulting in the discovery of a 17-year-old girl with facial injuries in the garage and the deceased Mouhoumed at the crash site.

Meguerditchian is scheduled to be sentenced on January 10, while his girlfriend, Mary Akopyan, aged 37, is also facing charges related to kidnapping, obstruction of justice, and assault for her alleged involvement in detaining the victims, as per reports from The Salt Lake Tribune.
