A man from West Virginia, identified as Randy Nethken, found himself in a situation with his new puppy. Instead of dealing with the mess the puppy made, he chose to take a rather extreme course of action. Authorities report that on October 7, in a small unincorporated community called Mabie, West Virginia, Nethken set his house on fire due to his frustration with the puppy's accidents.
According to the West Virginia State Fire Marshal's Office, they learned of the fire through an email notification. Nethken initially told emergency dispatchers that the fire had started in the attic. However, upon investigation, it was revealed that the fire's origin was different and involved "burned drawers" in the rear of the house.
Fire investigators determined that there were multiple separate fires in different parts of the house, including the bathroom vanity, where some hygiene products had been ignited. Additionally, they discovered multiple fires in the attic, indicating a deliberate act.
After extensive investigation, Nethken was confronted with the evidence and admitted that he intentionally set three fires in the attic. He stated that his frustration with the puppy's mess led him to start the fires.
Following this bizarre incident, Nethken allegedly attempted to create a GoFundMe page to help cover the damage costs, citing financial constraints. However, the fundraiser is not currently active. Nethken is currently in detention at the Tygart Valley Regional Jail, with a cash-only bond set at $20,000.
