In a recent development in the puzzling case of the abduction of Canadian woman Elnaz Hajtamiri by fake police officers, her ex-boyfriend, Mohamad Lilo, has been charged with first-degree murder, shedding new light on a case that had baffled investigators for nearly two years.
Hajtamiri was forcibly taken from a property in an Ontario beach community on January 12, 2022, by three men posing as police officers. They entered her home, dragged her through the snow barefoot, and placed her in a waiting vehicle. The latest revelation from the police indicates a belief that the missing woman is no longer alive.
Lilo, who was not only Hajtamiri's ex-boyfriend but also her former business partner, was already facing kidnapping charges related to her disappearance.
Additionally, he faced separate charges of attempted murder and attempted kidnapping stemming from a prior assault where she was attacked in an underground garage, suffering serious head wounds that required 40 stitches.
Police found tracking devices at the scene and two more in her car during a service in November. Two men, Riyasat Singh and Harshdeep Binner, were charged in connection to the parking garage attack.
In the aftermath of the abduction, investigators urged the public to share any relevant information. Hajtamiri's mother, Fariba Hajtamiri, expressed the family's anguish, pleading for those with information to come forward. The family had also offered a C$100,000 reward for details leading to the arrest of the abductors.
Elnaz Hajtamiri, also known as Tamiri, had immigrated to Canada from Iran less than five years ago, establishing her own cake-making business after leaving an import-export venture.
