Drama at the Marriott: Cody Wiggins, Florida Teacher, Faces Attempted Homicide Charges

A Florida high school teacher, Cody Wiggins, 29, found himself in hot water over the weekend after allegedly firing shots at his wife and brother-in-law during a wedding in Tennessee.

The incident unfolded at the Marriott of Cool Spring around 9:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 11, according to a statement from the Franklin Police Department. Wiggins, armed with a semi-automatic handgun, opened fire and swiftly fled the scene on foot, but was promptly located in a nearby subdivision.

The victims, who were the husband and brother-in-law of the suspect, were attending a wedding in Franklin. Both were rushed to Vanderbilt Hospital, and their current conditions remain unknown.

Wiggins now faces serious charges, including two counts of attempted homicide, domestic assault, aggravated assault, and tampering with evidence. He is currently held in Williamson County Jail with a hefty $3.5 million bond.

As of Tuesday afternoon, Nov. 14, authorities have not disclosed a potential motive behind the shooting.

Before the arrest, Wiggins served as an English teacher at West Florida High School in Pensacola, as reported by the Pensacola News Journal. In response to inquiries about Wiggins' connection to the school, Escambia Schools Superintendent Keith Leonard stated that, in accordance with Florida law and contractual provisions, the employee would be immediately suspended. Leonard affirmed their commitment to collaborating with law enforcement as the case unfolds.
