A radio host was killed during a live broadcast on Facebook in the Philippines.
According to the Misamis Occidental Police's Facebook post, Juan Jumalon, also known as DJ Johnny Walker, was fatally shot at his home-based radio station in Calamba town around 5:30 a.m. local time while on air for 94.7 Calamba Gold FM and Facebook Live.
The perpetrator, pretending to be a listener, gained access to the broadcaster's residence and shot him twice in the face before stealing a gold necklace and escaping. Despite being rushed to the hospital, Jumalon was declared dead.
The incident is under investigation to determine its connection to Jumalon's work.
In response to the incident, a sketch of one of the suspects was released by the police, seeking the public's assistance in identifying the individual.
Described as a man over 40 years old, of medium build, and last seen wearing a red cap, green shirt, and black shorts, the suspect was seen leaving the scene on a motorcycle with an accomplice.
The killing of Jumalon was strongly condemned by President Bongbong Marcos, who vowed to ensure swift justice for the perpetrators, emphasizing that attacks on journalists would not be tolerated in the country's democracy.
