In a horrific incident, a Florida mother lost her life along with her 10-month-old baby in an apartment fire, while her two other children sustained critical injuries. The tragedy has left the community in shock and grief, and a suspect has been charged with murder and arson.
At a press conference, Daytona Beach Police Chief Jakari Young expressed his profound sorrow over the incident, describing it as the "most horrendous and horrific crime" he had witnessed in his entire career.
The suspect, 34-year-old Charles Ivy, faces two counts of first-degree murder, two counts of attempted felony murder, and arson in connection with the late Monday attack.
Emergency responders were called to the scene of the fire at 1200 Belville Road in Daytona Beach, where they discovered Den'Jah Moore, 30, and her three children trapped inside.
Tragically, Moore had been stabbed, and her 10-month-old son succumbed to his injuries shortly after being transported to the hospital. The two older children, aged 4 and 5, remain in critical condition.
Investigators believe the fire was intentionally set, with the main blaze originating in a bedroom. Additionally, firefighters found all four kitchen stove burners turned on inside the apartment, further supporting the arson theory.
Police Chief Young revealed that Ivy is believed to be the father of at least two of the children, suggesting a domestic violence motive behind the heinous act.
Ivy was later apprehended during a traffic stop after being observed placing bags inside his SUV. While he has not confessed to the crime, investigators gathered substantial evidence linking him to the scene, including witness accounts, surveillance footage, and possession of the victim's cell phone.
A GoFundMe campaign has been established to assist the family with funeral and medical expenses during this difficult time.
The suspect, who has yet to enter a plea or retain an attorney, faces severe legal consequences for his alleged actions. The community is grappling with the immense loss and praying for the recovery of the two surviving children.
