A Florida mom found herself in trouble when she left her 7-year-old daughter in the car while she hit the bar for a drink. The DeLand Police Department got involved in the case.
Veronica Elliott got slapped with child neglect charges for her actions at The Perfect Spot Bar on Flightline Boulevard in DeLand around 3 a.m. on a Sunday.
The trouble began when the 7-year-old girl showed up at the bar looking for her mom. Police discovered that the child had been left alone in an unlocked car in a dark parking lot with no lights. The exact time when the woman arrived at the bar remains unknown, but police arrived at 2:58 a.m., and Elliott was found around 6:30 a.m.
Elliott approached the officers at the scene, asking them about the time. She claimed she had only intended to be gone for 10 minutes. However, the 35-year-old woman was barefoot, covered in dirt, and swaying back and forth. Her speech was slurred, and her movements suggested that she was under the influence, according to the police.
The Department of Children and Families stepped in and took custody of the child. Elliott managed to secure her release from jail after posting a $2,500 bond.
