A former school security guard with mayoral aspirations, Isaiah Thomas Hayes, aged 38, is facing arrest on Nov. 8, charged with three counts of sexual battery and one count of enticing a child for sexual purposes.
The Jackson County Sheriff’s Department statement, shared on Facebook, reveals that these alleged crimes against a 17-year-old occurred off campus from August to the end of October.
Hayes, who recently served as a school resources officer for the Moss Point School District in Mississippi until termination, had previously held the position of vice president on the district’s board of trustees.
In 2017, he ran unsuccessfully for mayor of Moss Point, and in 2021, he sought an alderman at large position in the city, with aldermen playing a role in creating, amending, and approving municipal laws.
The Moss Point School District, confirming an ongoing investigation, assured cooperation with local police in a statement to Law&Crime. The district emphasized its intolerance for employees engaging in criminal conduct with students, pledging immediate investigation and action when inappropriate behavior is suspected.
Local news outlet WLOX reported that Hayes was granted $30,000 bond per sexual battery charge and appeared in court a day after his arrest. As of now, no comment from Hayes's attorney is available.
This incident is not the first involving Moss Point staff. In April 2017, Moss Point High School campus police officer Kevin Williams was found guilty of sexual battery and touching a child for sexual purposes, with the victim being a sophomore at the time of the 2009 incident. Williams, sentenced to serve 20 years concurrently, was reported by the Sun Herald in 2017.
