Louisiana Woman Allegedly Beats Rival to Death with Walker in Jealous Rage

In Louisiana, a 37-year-old woman was apprehended this week for the alleged slaying of a 66-year-old woman. The accused purportedly used a walker as a weapon, fatally assaulting the victim due to suspicions of an affair with her partner.

Denise Amy Law was taken into custody on Thursday and charged with first-degree murder following the fatal beating of Melinda Reed, according to authorities.

The incident unfolded when law enforcement responded to a distress call about an assault in the 3500 block of Riverway Drive. Upon arrival, they discovered Reed with severe injuries to her head and face. Despite receiving medical attention, she tragically succumbed to her injuries.

Jail records from Law&Crime reveal that Law was promptly arrested for Reed's murder and is currently detained without bond at East Baton Rouge Parish Prison. The Advocate, a local newspaper, obtained an affidavit of probable cause that shed light on the altercation between the two women.

Reportedly, the conflict between Law and Reed arose from an argument concerning Law's suspicions of Reed's involvement with her boyfriend.

Witnesses recounted that the altercation began inside the residence before escalating into a physical confrontation in the driveway. Law allegedly utilized a metallic walker to repeatedly strike Reed, causing her to collapse. Even after she fell, Law persisted in assaulting her until bystanders intervened.

Aside from the violent incident, it was reported that Law confiscated Reed's cellphone and disposed of it in a storm drain. Firefighters were able to retrieve the phone. The authorities are actively investigating the case and encourage anyone with relevant information to reach out to BRPD's Violent Crimes Unit or Crime Stoppers.
