In a tragic turn of events, a 41-year-old Florida man, Robens Cesar, is accused of fatally shooting his ex-girlfriend, 34-year-old Fridelene Daniel, just hours after she had filed a police report against him for stalking.
The shocking incident unfolded on Wednesday, leaving Daniel's family horrified as they listened to her last moments over the phone.
Charged with first-degree murder, Cesar is currently held without bond in Palm Beach County Jail. In a post-shooting interview with detectives, Cesar revealed that he couldn't bear to see Daniel with another man and was attempting to reconcile with her.
The probable cause affidavit obtained by Law & Crime stated that Cesar considered Daniel reporting him to the police as the breaking point that led him to shoot her.
Approximately 40 minutes before the alleged shooting, Daniel had lodged a complaint with the Boynton Police Department, accusing her ex-boyfriend of stalking and harassment.
Police were alerted around 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday when witnesses reported finding Daniel dead with multiple gunshot wounds, surrounded by spent shell casings.
911 callers provided details of the shooter fleeing the scene in a black Honda, and Cesar was later apprehended at his home about four miles away. Surveillance footage captured him wearing a blue-gray tee shirt, green shorts, and his dreadlocks pulled back into a ponytail.
Heartbreakingly, Daniel was on the phone with a relative in Haiti just moments before the shooting. As she arrived at her apartment, the relative allegedly heard her ask, "Oh, did you bring a gun to kill me?" The chilling question was followed by the tragic sounds of gunfire.
Neighbors corroborated the horrifying incident, recalling the rapid succession of gunshots. Dawn Rosado, a neighbor, described the moment, saying, "It was just like boom and then it was a brief maybe like two-second pause I want to say and three or four more. We just kind of froze there for a moment."
