Authorities in Australia reported on Thursday that a 49-year-old woman, identified as Erin Patterson, was charged with murder in connection with the deaths of three individuals allegedly poisoned by mushrooms.

The tragic incident, occurring during a shared meal in Leongatha, resulted in the hospitalization of four people.

Sadly, Gail and Don Patterson, aged 70, along with Heather Wilkinson, 66, succumbed to the poisoning, while Ian Wilkinson, 69, managed to survive.

Erin Patterson, initially denying any involvement, faced additional charges of attempted murder, linked to separate incidents between 2021 and 2022 in Victoria.

The police suspect that the victims ingested the deadly Amanita phalloides, commonly known as the death cap mushroom.

Following a thorough investigation, Patterson was apprehended at her residence in Leongatha and remanded in custody pending her appearance at Latrobe Valley Magistrates' Court.

Detective Inspector Dean Thomas emphasized the tragedy of the situation, urging the public to come forward with any pertinent information to aid in the ongoing investigation.
