In a tragic incident that occurred in 2018, a skydiver lost his life after being struck by the wing of a plane. The pilot, whose identity remains undisclosed, was found guilty of manslaughter and handed a 12-month suspended sentence.
Nicolas Galy, the 40-year-old skydiver, had leaped from the aircraft piloted by the accused individual in July 2018. Moments after Galy's jump, he was tragically struck by the plane's wing.
Reports from French outlets, including Le Parisien and BFMTV, indicate that immediately following the incident, the pilot initiated a descent towards the landing strip. As a result of his actions, the pilot has been suspended from flying for a period of one year.
The Midi-Pyrénées Skydiving School Association, where the incident occurred, has also been penalized with a fine of approximately $21,751. Half of this amount has been suspended.
A lawyer representing the victim's family expressed their belief that the tragedy stemmed from "a great deal of recklessness or negligence."
