Four members of the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department have tragically passed away within a 24-hour period, prompting an investigation by homicide officials as the department grapples with the devastating losses, various sources have reported.
As of Wednesday, it has been revealed that the deaths were the result of suicide, with three active members and one retired employee among the deceased, as stated by the LASD to PEOPLE.
The first incident was reported on Monday morning at 10:30 a.m., followed by two more on the same day and one on Tuesday at 7:30 a.m., according to the department's statement. For the sake of their mourning families, the department refrained from disclosing further details about the officers.
Commander Darren Harris was found at his residence in Santa Clarita, Calif., while Sergeant Greg Hovland was discovered at his home in Quartz Hill, Calif., as reported by the Los Angeles Times.
In response to the tragic events, Sheriff Robert Luna expressed deep sorrow and emphasized the importance of supporting one another during these difficult times, pledging to explore strategies to alleviate work-related stress for the department's personnel.
