Stabbing Horror: Parolee's 'Random' Attack Results in Death of CA Woman, Leaves 2 Injured, Police Confirm

A recent violent incident in the Sierra Nevada foothills community of Ione resulted in the tragic death of a woman and left two others injured in a seemingly unprovoked stabbing spree.

The suspect, a 34-year-old man on parole for attempted murder, allegedly carried out the attacks at three different locations within the neighborhood. Police Chief John Alfred revealed that all the victims sustained multiple stab wounds, with the perpetrator apprehended on the street where two of the assaults took place.

The authorities have not established any connection between the victims, leading them to believe the attacks were indiscriminate.

The man is currently held without bail, and further details regarding the filing of charges and legal representation are yet to be confirmed. According to Alfred, the suspect was released from prison earlier in the year and had a history of confinement at the Atascadero State Hospital before relocating to Ione.

The facility he was previously held in is a secure psychiatric hospital for individuals referred by the courts or the state Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. Notably, the chief mentioned that he hadn't reviewed the details of the prior attempted murder case in Ione from 2011.

While the victims' identities were not publicly disclosed, the family of the deceased woman identified her as 63-year-old Lori Louise Owens. One of the injured, a man in his twenties, remained in stable condition, while a Pacific Gas & Electric worker received treatment and was later discharged from the hospital.
