Subway Showdown: NYPD Lieutenant Attacked by Knife-Wielding Duo

In the Bronx subway, an NYPD lieutenant faced a harrowing encounter when two knife-wielding men repeatedly punched him, as witnessed by an MTA conductor on a No. 1 train around 9:45 p.m. Saturday.

The altercation unfolded after the conductor noticed two groups of men with knives engaged in a dispute. While one group exited at W. 231st St, the other remained on the train and was intercepted by police at the 238th St. Station in Kingsbridge.

Despite the lieutenant's orders to vacate the train, the unruly individuals refused. In footage reviewed by the Daily News, two assailants delivered multiple punches to the lieutenant within the stationary train, while two others observed.

Managing to escape the confined space, the officer reached the platform, prompting the men to flee, with the officer in pursuit, brandishing his drawn gun. The attackers managed to escape onto the tracks, but a swift police chase led to their apprehension.

The arrested individuals, Marquise Webb and Brian Innocent, both 24 and from Westchester, were charged with assaulting a police officer, criminal possession of a weapon, and other related offenses. Police discovered a box cutter, a knife, and a straight razor in their possession.

Arraignment at Bronx Criminal Court for Webb and Innocent was pending as of Sunday evening. The injured lieutenant received treatment for cuts and swelling to his face at St. Barnabas Hospital.
