Texas Mom Charged with Shaking Baby Syndrome After Allegedly Searching for Symptoms Online Instead of Seeking Medical Attention

A Texas mother is facing serious charges after allegedly shaking her newborn daughter several times and then "slamming" her onto the changing table. Instead of seeking immediate medical attention for the injured infant, the mother reportedly searched the internet for information about Shaken Baby Syndrome.

The disturbing incident unfolded on November 15th when Clarissa Nicole Stewart allegedly inflicted non-accidental head trauma on her 2-month-old daughter. The infant was subsequently taken to Hendrick Medical Plaza in Abilene with severe injuries, prompting a call to Child Protective Services by a concerned employee.

Due to the gravity of the baby's condition, she was airlifted to Cook Children's Medical Center in Fort Worth for further treatment. Medical examinations revealed that the infant had suffered a subdermal hemorrhage, bleeding between the skull and the brain, as well as bruises to her torso and the area around her eye.

When questioned by police, Stewart reportedly confessed to shaking her daughter multiple times and forcefully slamming her onto the changing table earlier that day. She also admitted to waiting approximately six hours before seeking medical attention, during which time she conducted internet searches related to Shaken Baby Syndrome.

Investigators also uncovered text messages between Stewart and her husband that suggest she may have been struggling with postpartum depression. These messages reportedly included statements such as "I want nothing to do with [the baby] when you're off," "I can't stand her anymore," and "I honestly don't want to pump [breast milk] anymore."

The victim, who underwent brain surgery, currently requires nourishment through a feeding tube due to difficulties with swallowing.

Stewart is currently being held on a $100,000 bond. She faces a first-degree felony charge of injury to a child.
