Texas Woman Arrested for Allegedly Killing Mother and Grandmother

A 25-year-old woman in Texas has been arrested for allegedly killing her mother and grandmother one day before Thanksgiving. Kaitlyn Marie Bailey was taken into custody on Friday and charged with one count of murder and one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in the slayings of Shari Bailey and Bertha Bailey.

The Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office sent out a public alert on Wednesday, Nov. 22 stating that authorities were actively searching for Kaitlyn Bailey, who was identified as the main suspect in a murder.

She was said to be driving a black 2007 Ford Fusion and was believed to be in possession of a handgun. If spotted, the public was advised not to approach Kaitlyn Bailey, as she was considered armed and dangerous.

Law enforcement engaged in a two-day search for Kaitlyn Bailey before the defendant was located and taken into custody and charged with the double homicide. Despite requesting the public’s help as they searched for Kaitlyn Bailey, authorities have remained tight-lipped about the alleged crime and have not released any details regarding the slayings.

According to a report from Fort Worth NBC affiliate KXAS, Bailey’s family members identified the victims as the suspect’s mother, Shari Bailey, and her grandmother, Bertha Bailey.

The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported that the double murder took place early in the morning at a residence located in the 3900 block of Joalene Court in Rendon, which is listed as the address for Shari Bailey. Rendon is located about 35 miles southwest of Dallas.

A woman who was two houses away from where the victims were found told KXAS that she awoke to the flashing lights from police cars outside her house on Wednesday morning and had no idea what had happened. It was only later that she learned Kaitlyn Bailey was accused of murdering her mother and grandmother.

The victims’ family have reportedly turned down several interview requests from local news outlets.

The Star-Telegram reported that Kaitlyn Bailey has a history of committing domestic violence, and had previously attacked her mother at least one time prior to last week.

Kaitlyn Bailey reportedly pleaded guilty to strangling her mother in 2021 and in 2016, she reportedly pleaded guilty to assaulting an unidentified family member. It is unclear what punishments Kaitlyn Bailey faced for those convictions.

The Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office did not immediately respond to a message from Law&Crime.

Kaitlyn Bailey is currently being held in custody at the Tarrant County Jail in lieu of $200,000 bond, jail records show.
