A disturbing wave of allegations has surfaced against a retired pediatrician in Massachusetts, with over two dozen women now accusing him of sexual assault and rape during their childhood care.
The initial accusations emerged when two former patients connected through a social media discussion group and discovered shared experiences of inappropriate examinations conducted by Dr. Richard Kauff.
Upon further investigation, the number of accusers has skyrocketed, reaching 24 as of Kauff's arraignment.
Kauff stands charged with 16 counts of various assault charges, including rape and indecent assault and battery, and faces the possibility of dozens more charges in the future. Two of the accusers are still minors at the time of Kauff's arraignment.
The allegations gained momentum after one of the initial accusers inquired on a social media platform about the standard procedures for annual exams, specifically questioning the necessity of vaginal penetration.
This discussion sparked a cascade of similar experiences from other former patients, leading to the identification of Kauff as a common perpetrator.
Kauff has vehemently denied the accusations, maintaining his innocence and labeling the allegations as a "witch hunt." He was released on $50,000 bail under the condition that he refrains from leaving the state or being unsupervised around children under 16.
The case is scheduled to return to court on January 11, 2024, and the community awaits the outcome of this deeply disturbing situation.
