8-Year-Old Girl Dies as Mom Tells Her to Crawl Under Moving Train in order To Catch a Bus on The Other Side of The Road

In a tragic incident, the mother of a young girl who lost her life attempting to crawl beneath a moving train has been sentenced to six years in prison, as per court records.

Joy Frances Collins faced arrest in December 2018 in Fresno, Calif., and was charged with child abuse. The distressing event unfolded when she instructed her 8-year-old daughter, Joyanna Harris, to crawl under the train in order to catch a bus on the opposite side of the tracks, according to police reports.

Tragically, Joyanna lost her life moments later, following her 9-year-old brother, who had successfully crawled under the train but was injured in the process.

Court records indicate that Collins was found guilty of two counts of child abuse and endangerment in October, leading to her sentencing this week. During the sentencing, Collins, in a plea for leniency, expressed deep regret, saying, "There's not a day that goes by that I don't regret any of that, and I do. And I beg for your mercy so I won't have to go into a prison."

Reportedly, Collins’ son is now in the custody of his grandparents.

At the time of her arrest, Fresno police alleged that Collins urged her daughter to “hurry up” while crawling under the train.
