A pregnant woman from Chicago tragically lost her life, found in a black bag on the side of a road in a distant suburb at the end of last month. Law enforcement now believes they have the person responsible in custody.
Megan Lewis, aged 39, was discovered deceased along Hunt Club Road in Old Mill Creek. The autopsy revealed she was four months pregnant and had been strangled, according to the Lake County Coroner’s Office.
Juan Vega-Montoya, 37, was apprehended by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office near his Chicago home and charged with concealing a homicidal death. The case was transferred to Chicago Police Department as the murder is suspected to have occurred there. Prosecutors from Cook County are anticipated to pursue murder charges against Lewis’s alleged killer.
Sheriff John D. Idleburg condemned the act, praising the efforts to seek evidence and find the perpetrator. Megan’s obituary memorializes her as a cherished soul gone too soon, highlighting her life in Chicago and the vibrant city she embraced.
The arrest followed extensive video surveillance review and physical evidence collection. Allegedly, Vega-Montoya picked up Lewis in Chicago, leading to a fatal argument and her subsequent death. The suspect was arrested during a traffic stop while additional evidence of the homicide was found in his vehicle.
Despite efforts, the Chicago Police Department had no record of the incident. Vega-Montoya's case was yet to be docketed in Cook County courts.
