Arrest in Killing of Heidi Voight's Mother Emerges

A person was apprehended on second-degree murder charges related to the tragic killing of Claudia M. Voight, the mother of Heidi Voight, a morning news anchor for NBC Connecticut Today and a former participant in the Miss America pageant. Vermont State Police made the arrest of Shawn Conlon, 44, in connection to the death of 73-year-old Claudia Voight, whose body was discovered in her Windham, Vt. residence on February 20.

Initially perceived as a non-suspicious death due to a possible medical incident, Claudia's demise was later determined by the Chief Medical Examiner's Office in Burlington to be caused by neck compression, leading to the classification of her death as a homicide.

Heidi Voight took to social media in July to disclose the painful truth surrounding her mother's passing, revealing that Claudia had been violently murdered in her own home. Expressing the enduring pain of the loss, Heidi emphasized the impact of this tragedy on her family's life, lamenting her mother's absence and the emotional toll of concealing the truth during the early stages of the investigation.

Shawn Conlon, identified as a former renter in Claudia Voight's home, was apprehended at a Groton, Conn., hotel by a combined effort of the U.S. Marshals Service, Rhode Island State Police, and Groton Police Department after Vermont State Police secured a warrant for his arrest. Allegations surfaced that Conlon had ceased paying rent in late 2022 but continued residing in the house until the fatal attack on Claudia in February.

Charged as a fugitive in Connecticut and detained on a $1 million bail, Conlon waived extradition and is set to return to Vermont to face charges related to Claudia Voight's death.
