Baltimore Father, Christopher Gamble, Charged in Tragic Shooting Death of 2-Year-Old Daughter in Baltimore

A Baltimore man, Christopher Gamble, 28, faces serious charges after the tragic shooting death of his 2-year-old daughter on Sunday.

According to reports from CBS News Baltimore, WBAL, and WMAL, Gamble was charged on Wednesday with first- and second-degree murder, child abuse leading to death, and gun-related charges linked to the incident that took place on Dec. 17, 2023, in the Northwest District, as detailed in a news release by the Baltimore Police.

An investigation pointed to Gamble as responsible for the shooting in his home on Park Heights Avenue, resulting in his daughter's tragic death. The 2-year-old sustained a fatal gunshot wound to the head and was rushed to Sinai Hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries, reported WBAL.

As revealed in a criminal complaint cited by multiple sources, Gamble allegedly admitted to leaving an illegally obtained firearm on his bedroom TV stand. The police investigation suggested that Gamble and his daughter were the only individuals present when the incident occurred.

During police interviews, Gamble allegedly provided conflicting statements, initially suggesting his daughter shot herself and later confirming his presence in the room when the tragedy unfolded, according to the complaint. Notably, the complaint does not accuse Gamble of firing the gun himself.

Authorities executed search warrants for Gamble's residence and vehicle but found no additional firearms or traces of blood. Gamble claimed to have no knowledge of the gun's whereabouts.

The complaint also highlighted Gamble's actions after the shooting, indicating that he initially brought his daughter to Sinai Hospital and left, later returning with altered clothing and accompanied by the child's mother, as per WBAL-TV 11.

Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott expressed deep sorrow over the child's death and emphasized the need for accountability, stating that such a tragedy should not have occurred, especially in a place meant to be safe for a young child.

Gamble is currently detained at Central Booking without bail, as ordered by a court commissioner, according to The Baltimore Sun. At present, there is no information regarding legal representation or any pleas entered on his behalf.
