Drunk Driver Hits Patrol Car, Leaving California Deputy Sheriff and K-9 Hanging from Cliff

A California cop's night took a terrifying turn when a suspected drunk driver slammed into his car, sending them both dangling precariously over a cliff. Deputy Castaneda and his furry partner, K-9 Danny, were responding to a call near the famous Malibu seafood spot Neptune's Net when the crash happened.

The impact launched Castaneda's patrol car off the Pacific Coast Highway, leaving it teetering on rocks above the crashing waves. Thankfully, both cop and canine escaped with scrapes and bumps.

Even the suspected drunk driver, who had a prior DUI on their record, only suffered minor injuries.

Photos shared by the Ventura County Sheriff's Office show the chilling scene: Castaneda's car perched precariously on the cliff edge, Danny by his side as medics tend to them. The driver, after a hospital visit, was booked for felony DUI and put back on probation.

While the investigation continues, one thing is clear: this was a close call. The sheriff's office expressed relief that both officer and K-9 were okay, reminding us all of the dangers lurking on our roads, even for those who dedicate their lives to keeping them safe.
