Florida Man Who Absconded with Inmates and Quit His Job Mid-Transport, Arrested for Kidnapping

A Florida man was arrested in North Carolina after quitting his job as a prison transport driver and refusing to deliver the inmates to their intended destination. The man, Joshua James Pinquet, is accused of five felony counts of kidnapping and one felony count of larceny by servants or other employees.

Pinquet was working for a private inmate transport company when he decided to quit his job in the middle of a trip. He was transporting four inmates from various law enforcement agencies outside North Carolina to detention centers around the country.

Instead of stopping at the intended destination in Hickory, North Carolina, Pinquet continued driving on Interstate 40 into Iredell County. The owner of the company became aware of the situation when another employee traveling with Pinquet and the inmates texted him about the issue.

Deputies were able to stop the van along Interstate 40 near mile marker 154 and detain Pinquet and the other employee. The inmates were secured and turned over to other employees for the company, who continued their journey to Florida.

Pinquet was initially held in the Iredell County Jail with no bond. Jail records suggest he was released on $750,000 secured bond on Saturday. He is slated to appear in court on December 20.
