A former Pennsylvania police officer, Tyler Humphreys, who had been entrusted with protecting his community and assigned to patrol a high school, now faces serious criminal charges involving the rape and assault of three minors.
Humphreys, 21, formerly with the Sharon Hill Borough Police Department until his recent termination, was charged on December 15 with multiple offenses including rape of a child, statutory sexual assault, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, and others. The Chester County District Attorney’s office revealed these charges, highlighting a disturbing series of events.
Pennsylvania State Police received an initial report in November concerning suspected child abuse by Humphreys, spanning from 2014 when he was 12 years old until 2018. The first victim, a 9-year-old boy, was reportedly forced into performing oral sex on Humphreys multiple times in East Whiteland Township, Chester County, Pennsylvania.
During this investigation, a second victim, a 15-year-old girl, came forward alleging that Humphreys had intoxicated her, moved her to a bedroom, disrobed her, and raped her. Notably, at the time of this alleged assault, Humphreys was an adult.
A third victim, aged 19 at the time, reported being assaulted by Humphreys between November 23, 2022, and December 2, 2022. She recounted waking up in pain with Humphreys next to her, asleep and in his underwear. Allegedly, Humphreys had assaulted her while she was asleep and had a history of inappropriate touching dating back to when she was 11.
The district attorney, Deborah Ryan, condemned Humphreys' actions, stating that he violated vulnerable individuals, engaging in criminal behavior that defied comprehension. She emphasized that Humphreys, who was meant to uphold the law, instead exploited innocent victims for his own gratification.
Humphreys, employed full-time by Sharon Hill Borough PD and working as a school resource officer at Academy Park High School, also held a part-time position at Folcroft Borough Police Department. The timeline of the alleged criminal acts concerning his employment remains unclear.
A spokesperson for the Sharon Hill Borough Police Department clarified that all allegations against Humphreys predate his employment with their department. Humphreys is due in court next Tuesday and was released on $275,000 bail.
Pennsylvania State Police urge anyone with information on this case to report tips at 610-486-6280. Additionally, a national hotline (1-800-932-0313) is available for reporting suspected child abuse.
