A dangerous situation unfolded in Las Vegas after a Thanksgiving dinner turned violent. Taris Jones, 32, faces multiple charges, including attempted murder, after allegedly shooting into his ex-wife's home with her five children inside.
The incident occurred on November 24th, around 1 a.m., when a ShotSpotter system detected four gunshots. Police were called to the scene shortly thereafter, where the victim reported that her ex-husband had fired shots into her home.
According to the arrest report, Jones had been invited to the victim's home for Thanksgiving dinner, as they share two daughters together. After dinner, the children went to bed, and the victim and Jones sat down to discuss their relationship.
The conversation quickly turned heated, with Jones blaming the victim for the end of their marriage and expressing anger about not being able to see his daughters more often. When the victim mentioned that Jones had shot her in 2021 as the reason for their separation, tensions escalated further.
Jones demanded to take the daughters with him, but the victim refused. When he threatened to leave and return, the victim locked both the front door and the sliding glass door.
Despite being locked out, Jones climbed onto the patio and re-entered the house through the sliding glass door. He continued to argue with the victim, eventually waking up her two sons.
The eldest son intervened, urging Jones to leave. He agreed and exited the house once again. However, just moments later, the victim heard "firecracker-like sounds" followed by the shattering of the sliding glass door.
She immediately yelled for her children to get down and took cover herself. After the sounds subsided, she found bullet holes in her TV, her son's bedroom wall, window, and hallway, indicating Jones had fired multiple shots into the house.
The victim believes that Jones deliberately avoided shooting her daughters' room, knowing where they slept. She believes he intended to harm her and her sons to gain custody of the daughters.
Police tracked down Jones and took him into custody without incident. During a recorded phone conversation with the victim, Jones appeared agitated and admitted to shooting at the house. He also acknowledged the possibility of going to jail and not seeing his daughters again.
Jones has a prior conviction for domestic battery in 2016, further highlighting the dangerous nature of this incident.
This case serves as a chilling reminder of the devastating consequences of domestic violence and the importance of taking immediate action if you feel threatened or unsafe.
