A man who escaped from a Minnesota courtroom while awaiting his verdict for second- and third-degree manslaughter charges has been apprehended in Michigan.
Michael Harlan, 29, managed to flee the Hennepin County courthouse in March and an active warrant was issued for his arrest.
Harlan's escape happened just moments after he was accompanied into the courtroom by officers and his attorney and he allegedly asked if he could use the restroom.
After he went to the bathroom, Harlan simply never returned. Authorities said he was apprehended on Friday in Detroit.
Harlan had been found guilty of the manslaughter charges in connection with the death of Cole Linnell, a 29-year-old man who died of a drug overdose.
Linnell's mother, Jean Thurmer, expressed her relief that Harlan had been captured and wanted to see him face justice.
Authorities believe that Harlan sold Linnell the fentanyl-laced drugs that led to his death.
After escaping the courtroom, Harlan remained on the run for several months before being arrested in Michigan.
He is scheduled to appear in court again on Monday.
