Missing Texas Woman Found Dead, Rideshare Driver Linked to Case Takes His Own Life

A 20-year-old Texas woman, Amanda Stevenson, vanished on November 19th, just days before Thanksgiving and her 20th birthday. Her body was sadly discovered in a creek on Tuesday, December 5th, the day before a rideshare driver linked to her disappearance took his own life.

Stevenson's family reported her missing on Tuesday morning. Last seen near Salem Road on November 19th, her phone was found locked and inaccessible. Police quickly identified a "known associate" working for a rideshare service as a potential suspect.

Authorities identified the associate as Kevin Bennetsen, 45, of Victoria. Investigators confirmed a connection between Bennetsen and Stevenson's disappearance. On Tuesday, human remains were found near a bridge off of Fordyce Road, near Patriot Park.

Detectives interviewed Bennetsen about the young woman's whereabouts. During a subsequent traffic stop on Wednesday, Bennetsen tragically took his own life.

Police searched various locations frequented by Bennetsen, including a property near Yoakum. They utilized scent-sensitive dogs and drones, with consent from Bennetsen's spouse and additional authorization through a search warrant.

Stevenson's family believes she was likely with Bennetsen at the time of her disappearance. While Bennetsen's motive remains unclear, police urge the public to avoid speculation and false narratives.

Bennetsen also worked as an elementary school teacher in the Victoria Independent School District between 2012 and 2022.

Anyone with information about Amanda Stevenson's disappearance is encouraged to contact Victoria Crime Stoppers at 361-572-4200.

This tragedy highlights the importance of safety and awareness when using ridesharing services. Passengers are encouraged to share their rides with trusted contacts and be mindful of their surroundings.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Stevenson's family and loved ones during this difficult time.
