Two University of Florida scientists are facing disturbing charges of child abuse after allegedly keeping their two young children caged, according to authorities.
The horrifying story unfolded after a child confided in a school official, expressing fear of returning home and being put back in a cage. This brave act led to the arrest of 35-year-old Dustin Huff and 31-year-old Yurui Xie, both employed as biological scientists at the university.
Details of the alleged abuse are deeply unsettling. Reports indicate that the couple constructed a cage for their children, aged 6 and 2, using a wooden bed frame. The older child reportedly described being left alone, locked inside the cage while their mother worked.
University officials wasted no time in placing Huff and Xie on administrative leave. They currently face two counts of aggravated child abuse and one count of child neglect. Legal proceedings are ongoing, and it's unclear if either parent has secured legal representation or entered a plea.
This shocking case raises serious questions about child protection and institutional accountability. The alleged inaction of the university, despite reports of concerning behavior, adds another layer of tragedy to this already heartbreaking story.
