Skeletal Remains Found in a Woods in Virginia, ID'd as Those of a Boy, Logan Bowman Who Went Missing Since 2003
After a heartbreaking mystery spanning two decades, Virginia authorities have finally confirmed the identity of skeletal remains found last year. They belong to Logan Nathaniel Bowman, a 5-year-old boy who vanished without a trace in 2003.
The Carroll County Sheriff's Office, with the help of Texas-based DNA specialists Othram Inc., cracked the case thanks to advanced forensic technology. Othram used cutting-edge DNA sequencing and comparisons to match Logan's remains to family members, bringing closure to a long-ago nightmare.
Logan went missing in Grayson County back in 2003. While the circumstances surrounding his disappearance remain shrouded in darkness, his biological mother and her then-boyfriend faced legal repercussions. Cynthia Davis received a 15-year sentence for secondary murder, but charges against the boyfriend were dropped due to insufficient evidence.
The Sheriff's office hinted at potential new developments in the case, suggesting their investigation wasn't over.
The remains were discovered in a wooded area near Galax, Virginia, in September 2022. A property owner stumbled upon them in a trash bag and alerted authorities. Sheriff Kevin Kemp expressed his shock and the significance of this case, calling it "very rare" and a turning point in their search for Logan.
"It was a day where I first thought, 'What if these could be the remains of Logan Bowman?'" he confessed.
Investigators determined the remains had been there for quite some time, adding another layer of tragedy to the story.
For Logan's family, this brings long-awaited answers, even though they come tinged with sorrow. His name and memory will no longer be lost, hopefully bringing them a measure of peace after all these years.
